In a small street on the outskirts of town, there are two small shops next to each other: Nummesen's herbalist's shop and Mikkelsen's plumber's shop. Nummesen, the little quirky, friendly herbalist, loves to tease the choleric Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen wants to sell the shop, mostly because the economy is bad after his former Svend, Vilhelm, left it. Now Vilhelm is coming back, to the great joy of Mikkelsen's daughter, who is in love with Vilhelm.

The priest in Solby borrows 2,000 kroons from the parish council treasury to pay for one of his parishioners' hospital stays in Germany. Marianne, the rich man's daughter, is to be a bridesmaid in Aalborg and is leaving Copenhagen for Jutland. In Solby, she drives too fast through the town, which is why she has a car accident and ends up in the priest's garden! She immediately starts to lead everyone around the rectory, which Aunt Marie is definitely not happy about. The priest, on the other hand, is attracted to the girl. They swim in the lake and go to a ball together, which leads to Mrs. Larsen coming in to talk to the bishop. After Marianne has returned to Copenhagen, the bishop announces his arrival at the rectory. Where will the priest now find the 2,000 kroons? The priest has a number of friends who are trying to help him, but he also receives unexpected help from the bishop.

In the ‘Strandgården’ on Taasinge, the three brothers Østermann Lars, Nikolaj and Hans live a secluded life, they are all three bachelors. Over the years, they have developed into three originals who let their farm fall into disrepair and otherwise do not bother to take care of anything.

Ms. Møller is a cashier in a large piano store and will soon be celebrating her 25th anniversary. She wants to help the sweet young Grete Holm in the packing room. In order for the poor and orphaned Grete to meet a rich young man, Ms. Møller invites her on a skiing holiday in Sweden. Grete finds herself a ski instructor, and it all goes wrong when Ms. Møller has all her savings stolen and is also accused by the piano company's director of having taken the cash herself. However, she manages to expose the real thief, and Grete's ski instructor turns out to be an engineer with his own company.

Sigurd, the son of a hard-hearted, feared and hated consul, cannot have the girl he loves - because her mother is a Lapp girl - so he goes as a stowaway on "Vesle Kari" to the west ice of Greenland. Here the ship sinks, and only Sigurd and another young man, Lorens, make it ashore. The two eventually get on each other's nerves so much in the desolate north that Sigurd kills Lorens in self-defense.

Hrafnildur, also known as “Hadda Padda", and her sister Kristrun are spending the summer in scenic Breidabol with Hadda Padda’s fiancé, Ingolf. During World War I, the engineer Torben returns home with secret papers from the Russian Tsar to the courier Tuschin, Torben's best friend. Tuschin is found murdered, however, and to solve the murder, Torben stays at his hotel. Here he meets several mysterious people, not least the breathtaking stenographer Inge. But in the hotel, no one is who they pretend to be.

Friends Peder and Oluf are neighbours and meet regularly for a pint and a game of chess. In secret, Oluf casts a roving eye at his friend’s wife, Mette, who is clearly receptive to his charms. But he has no need to look for a wife, he tells Peder, who mocks him for being a bachelor. No, all he needs to do to lure women in is to blow his golden horn.
