Lash is the head coal stoker on a steam ship whose shipmates have nicknamed "Captain". Lash somehow grabs the attention of society dame passenger Cora Nevins. Nevins is actually a jewel thief who's lifted diamonds from wealthy passenger Arthur Condrax. She needs Lash to aid in sneaking the "ice" ashore at Singapore. Cocky is Lash's concertina-playing buddy and uses it to signal Lash.

He does a series of personal appearances and radio interviews and talk shows, using an anti-Communist approach.

Uncle Joe presses Ethel to divorce Bing and marry a more desirable suitor called Percy Howard. Ethel, Joe and Percy are dining in a California night club when the announcer refers to the sponsor, the Magic Washing Machine Company and introduces their singer. It is Crosby and he sings "Just One More Chance" and he and Ethel reunite.

His helpful friend Jack Scott introduces him to a very pretty--and shapely--Miss Scott, whose stock-in-trade is understanding misunderstood husbands, and she is very good at it. Charles enjoys being one of the boys and schedules more business meetings. Meanwhile, his wife Alice is at home wishing her husband didn't have to go to so many business meetings.
