An elderly man takes in his orphaned niece after the death of his younger brother. On the way home, on the train, in communication with various people, the true traits of his character are revealed.

A toboggan train is coming to the village from the construction site of a drilling rig: a tractor pulling a carriage on a snowy track. The hero of the film is Mikhail Stepchak, the foreman of a construction crew, a man with character. He wants to work in a way that is both beneficial and enjoyable. And all around there are notes and cheating. Only Stepchak won't stand it: he has a big conversation with his superiors ahead of him...
