Lichter is an episodic tale from Hans-Christian Schmid about the life on the border between Germany and Poland. The film sheds light on the everyday stories of escape and desperateness.

Germany director Dani Levy filmed this comedy about Jewish life in today’s Germany along side the familiar east-west conflict. With it great success this film is a joyful comedy of humor and knowledge.

A Jewish ghetto in the east of Europe, 1944. By coincidence, Jakob Heym eavesdrops on a German radio broadcast announcing the Soviet Army is making slow by steady progress towards central Europe. In order to keep his companion in misfortune, Mischa, from risking his life for a few potatoes, he tells him what he heard and announces that he is in possession of a radio - in the ghetto a crime punishable by death. It doesn't take long for word of Jakob's secret to spread - suddenly, there is new hope and something to live for - and so Jakob finds himself in the uncomforting position of having to come up with more and more stories.

A group of kids grow up on the short, wrong (east) side of the Sonnenallee in Berlin, right next to one of the few border crossings between East and West reserved for German citizens. The antics of these kids, their families, of the "West German" friends and relatives who come to visit, and of the East German border guards, all serve to illustrate the absurdity of everyday life on the Sonnenallee, and therefore throughout the former East Germany.

First, there are violent arguments between Elsa and Sorin. But slowly Elsa and Sorin are getting closer. Suddenly things are brought up that have been repressed for years.

Jan Landers made it: Grown up in East Berlin, he quickly made his career after the turnaround: from the weatherman of a local station to the newsreader in Hamburg.

Four very retired, ex-GDR spies, or "Kundschafter des Friedens" as they were officially named, led by the once legendary Jochen Falk, are called on by the German government. Their mission is to rescue the interim president of the divided Republic of Katschekistan, who has been kidnapped by separatists, along with Berlin's official man on the ground, Franz Kern. To keep Jochen and his maybe no longer so crack team under control, all of whom are determined to prove they were treated unfairly by history, they are put under the command of the young and enthusiastic BND agent Paula Kern.

Berlin, the vibrant life. Only cashier Emma feels really lonely. There is nothing wrong with her, she just goes underground in the big city. Her desire to meet people has brought Emma to a strange idea: she lets go in the supermarket purses of customers and later presents herself as a hospitable finder, who invites you to pick up at the laid table. His mother is critical of the marriage and demands that her son conceal his stay in the "lunatic asylum" from his wife. This secret overshadows the young couple's relationship from the very beginning, and the burden of silence finally makes Rudolf want to take his own life. Only at the last minute is Anna able to save him from this stupidity.

The real blue is the color with which potter Benito Guerrero makes his fortune. When he no longer receives the color from Germany as a result of the Second World War, he and his family's existence are threatened. However, with the help of his inventive cousin Ruben, he manages to bring his real blue back onto the market.

Kummerow - a small town somewhere in Germany. Young people are moving away, jobs are scarce. Oskar Kubiczek, mayor, pub owner and optimist, is fighting for his town and fighting for his wife. A Bavarian company wants to invest in the region and a consultant is supposed to be on his way. The stubborn people of Kummerow are unimpressed. Only Oskar's friend Niels Lause supports him - but also his wife Irmgard. Irmgard wants to leave home and Oskar so that she can finally practise her profession as a midwife again. In the end, Oskar succeeds in rousing the people of Kummerow from their lethargy and mobilizing all their strength for the upcoming rowing regatta. Kummerow has a chance again - and not just against the Zechin rowing club.

Boran has been on the run from the police for 20 years. Back then, he was sent to prison after an unsuccessful bank robbery, from where he escaped. He left nothing behind; his wife and their son were killed in a car accident. At least that's what he thinks until one day he receives a letter in which a little girl claims to be his granddaughter.

Felix is at an impasse in his family life and his job. His wife Bianca wants a separation, his children are moving away from him and his hair is falling out. When he also loses his job, Felix finds himself on the edge of the abyss. That's when a mysterious stranger offers him three wishes.

Benno (Torsten Rennert), a bright boy from Berlin, is not really a problem case, although his parents have enough trouble with him. But that's not just because of Benno, but because no one really has time for him. During a train ride, he meets a pensioner Oskar Schrader (Erwin Geschonneck), who likes to cook, collect watches, master magic tricks and who lives in the middle of nature. Between them they develop a real friendship. Benno is allowed to spend his school holidays with his friend. The grumpy Oskar lives alone in a garden colony - with friendly and unfriendly neighbors. Benno enjoys playing tricks with his buddy Mutz (Thomas Hoffer) on this neighborhood including the cranky animal lover Irma Kalweit (Agnes Krause) and the rude daredevil Ralf Klotz (Henry Hübchen).

The paths of many people cross before Christmas Eve. Each of them has their own special story to tell on this day... On the morning of December 24, the doctor at the children's clinic leaves the hospital with a happy heart. The parents of little Matthias have reconciled with each other. As a farewell gift, the porter gives her a chocolate Santa Claus, which is to be passed on many times that day: at one or two fleeting encounters, as a nice gesture for other people. Fate plays a bit of a servant Ruprecht and distributes his gifts. Two lonely hearts are in a hurry to escape the hustle and bustle of the festive season. An accident brings them together. In exchange for a bottle of champagne to mark the shock, the sweet chocolate man switches to Ilse's divorced husband, who is drawn back into the bosom of the family at the same time every year.

Paul Bacher is in crisis. If he could feel in the past as one of the most influential writers of his generation, he has long lacked ideas and impetus for a new great work. His reading tours are becoming more and more a sad affair with too much alcohol and too little public. Then Paul overflows in a drunken hitchhiker, flees first scared and later removes the body, without talking to anyone about the experience. But something is flowing in its interior. Paul starts to write again. The criticism is done, but the story about the death of a hitchhiker also arouses suspicion.

Based on the classical novel "Treasure of Silver Lake" by Karl May. Cowboys Hobble Frank and Tante Droll are instructed to deliver the legacy of chief Weiser Bär, a map to the legendary Treasure of the Silver Lake, to his hiers Großer Bär and Kleiner Bär. But the bandit Cornel Brinkley and his buddies manage to steal the map and so Frank and Droll call up Old Shatterhand and Winnetou, to help them in their quest to recapture the map and save the treasure.

Mozglyakov, a young noble playboy, brings great "luck" to the small town of Mordassov: he brings them a prince in the flesh whom he has picked up in the snow. His commentary on this "high-born": the prince is actually just an artificial figure, with horsehair, a glass eye and chalky legs as well as a spring system as a locomotor system. He and other male inhabitants of the small town had no idea that such a fossil would set the local ladies into a fierce battle for prestige, power and money.

In a small Saxon town after the Second World War, the former chimney sweep Toni tries to survive on the black market and meets the pusher Ginfizz. Together they initially trade in flour before embarking on a riskier plan: they are to rescue machines from Soviet expropriation for the mill owner Hartmann by transporting them in hidden trucks. In the process, they become entangled in various adventures, from rescuing orphans to transporting pigs, while being constantly pursued by the young policewoman Gisela, who wavers between her professional duty and her attraction to Toni. After Ginfizz is caught and the others remain temporarily free, they help to get the mill up and running again to avert a food shortage.

A gloomy small town at peace with itself on the edge of a bizarre industrial landscape. The former night watchman of the industrial complex is discovered murdered. The police inspector in charge of the case soon sees a link between the murder and an ominous poison gas depot established at the end of World War II by a Nazi partisan group called The Werewolfs.

Unknown assailants threaten the life of British scientist Dr. Ronald Fergusson. Only by chance does the attempt to shoot him in the street fail. Fergusson, who does not believe in police protection, hires private detective Weber for his personal safety. And time and again, the headstrong scientist makes it difficult for his bodyguard to fend off further assassination attempts. Despite being expressly forbidden to do so, he leaves the house. Full of bad suspicions, Weber looks for his client in the morgue, but Vivian, Fergusson's employee, doesn't know the dead man...

After plotting a way to get kicked out of boarding school, the twins diverge for the first time in their lives when Nanni starts enjoying her stay.

A young woman from a progressive middle-class family moves to Shanghai with her husband Rolf in the mid-1930s. Although she has a child, she is not prepared to retreat into private life. She meets Dr. Richard Sorge and decides to become a scout. After training near Moscow - she is given the cover name Sonja - she is sent to Manchuria on her first assignment with her comrade Ernst. She has an affair with Ernst and has a child with him. A new assignment that takes her to Poland separates her from Ernst. She is awarded the Order of the Red Banner in Moscow for her work. She then goes to Switzerland and radios information about the impending war to the Soviet Union. She meets Rolf and Ernst, who are on an assignment in the Far East. Sonja marries an Englishman to avoid being extradited to Germany.

On the eve of the German Peasants' Revolt, painter Joerg Ratgeb is occupied by a crisis of his own: finding a model for a Christ figure. He sets off on a journey to consult with his artistic role model, Albrecht Dürer.
