For half a year, the officer and the dissident sit face to face almost daily, and the unbelievable happens: they fall in love with each other. In a few words and gestures and by means of a numerical code, they communicate. '11 means 'you are beautiful', '12 means 'I love you'. Jan and Bettina are always at risk of their love being discovered.

After the incident, young policewoman Lena Frey sets off on her own search for clues and comes across more and more contradictions in the version of events that is supposed to have happened 15 years ago. This draws the displeasure of Theweleit and the shady inspector Günther Lehmann, who was also involved in the incident. After a meeting with Keller, Frey begins to doubt the man's guilt.

Cologne/Bonn Airport: Detective Inspector Mark Kleinert transfers the young Turkish man Baran Sahin, who has been arrested for illegal possession of weapons, to Istanbul.
