Vladimír Michálek chose an unconventional adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel for his feature debut. Artistically reminiscent of the classic films of Karel Zeman, the director reinterpreted this dark story of a man vainly seeking a place in a rigidly ordered society by changing the desperate conclusion into a happy end. The film provided Czech comedian Jirí Lábus with a new kind of role: that of the despotic uncle of a main hero Karel Rossman (Martin Dejdar).

This film essay about mushrooms and their connections to other living things tries to use the structure of mushrooms to explain nature, science, and civilization, all the while searching for various analogies, such as the similarities between mycorrhiza and other structures.

Honza Marak has long since abandoned a career in IT and has bought a cottage on the outskirts of a small village, where he’s settled in with his wife Marketa, daughter Anyna and son Sayen. He works in the woods as a forest labourer repairing roads and enclosures, cutting wood to sell and assisting the foresters. Marketa earns a living as a masseuse and alternative healer, making use of various mind-altering plants and mushrooms, which leads to conflict with the old inhabitants and eventually with drug enforcement. Daughter Anyna attends a distant school where her grades deteriorate as she wanders the woods learning from nature rather than from her textbooks.

He has not been accepted twice because there is a great interest in studying at this university, only a select few are accepted. Mother Kocourková has long given up on the dream that her son will study something proper and that she will ever understand him, and so she increasingly talks to herself with a bottle of vodka. Kolman, meanwhile, is studying in his second year at the University of Economics. But instead of lectures and seminars, he is only interested in his classmates. He packs one after another. He solves his exams and credits by fraud or bribery. Kocourek, on the other hand, is conscientious and hardworking and falls head over heels in love with the enchanting Júlia, who is also applying to the UMPRUM.

The film was made by Tomáš Vorel while he was still a student at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The short film is a peculiar retelling of the first The Rapid Arrows comics of Jaroslav Foglar. Let us recall that the leader of the future club Mirek saves Jarka Metelka from cruel torture with tennis balls, for which both of them earn the displeasure of the Brotherhood of Cat Paws.
