Sara Méndez, a Uruguayan teacher, was kidnapped in March 1976 by the Argentine Dictatorship, when her baby (who was appropriated by the military) was only 20 days old. They were reunited in 2002, after a search that lasted 26 years.

For more than forty years, Belela Herrera has dedicated her life to saving that of others. In October 1976, the Uruguayan Armed Forces exhibited to the media a group of militants kidnapped in Buenos Aires months before, as if they had just been captured in national territory. The assembly sought to counteract the international campaign for human rights violations in Uruguay and was possible because the State had a monopoly on information on the anti-subversive struggle. Survivors of the kidnapping evoke the events, while specialists and journalists analyze the historical context and the media of the time.

The Punta de Rieles prison was where most female political prisoners were incarcerated during the dictatorship in Uruguay. The way up to the building led through “the meadow” where there were animals grazing, and the prison itself was surrounded with flowers. The place seemed eminently liveable, almost comfortable, and at first sight there was no sign of the silent struggle going on behind those walls. This documentary is an attempt to reconstruct life at the prison through the testimony of some of the hundreds of women who were there and who resisted the military regime's attempts to grind them down and destroy them.
