Its summer and everyone are going on holiday to a small fisher town in Jutland.

The stubborn and reclusive Kresten Flint lives alone on "Flintegården" with his daughter, Else, who is kind-hearted but not quite normal. One day, the young farmer Jesper Poulsen arrives to propose to Else. His girlfriend has let him down, so he comes with honest intentions—to be good to Else and get the farm back on its feet. Else gives birth to twins, two boys, Viggo and Martin, but she dies in childbirth, leaving Jesper alone with his two boys. Viggo and Martin grow up to be two handsome men who are also inseparable friends—until they fall in love with the same girl...

Søren Holm becomes a pastor in the small town of Harslev. The parish council chairwoman, Mrs. Andersen, interferes in the pastor's family's private life, and when Søren plays in a soccer game to get to know the town's young men, Mrs. Andersen becomes furious. Half of the parish turns its back on Søren. But Søren does good work for the young people, and gradually, with the help of the parish clerk, he is accepted by both the parish council and the town's youth.

Outside the large hotel, there is a lot of activity. It is teeming with foreigners, buses arrive and depart, and indoors the air is filled with foreign languages. One day, a young man unexpectedly shows up in the small town, and word quickly spreads that he has inherited a fishing boat and a small house from his uncle. Martin Poulsen is not a fisherman, but he decides to become one. He finds a good helper, Mikkel, who has been fishing for many years, and his nephew, Anders, who has his eye on Marie from Møllegården. One day, Martin meets the oldest girl on the farm, Anna, and quickly falls in love with her. This, along with his interest in fishing, becomes a thorn in the side of the small community's largest cutter owner, who has until now been regarded as a minor king.

During the Occupation, the young freedom fighter Søren had a good working relationship with a comrade in the resistance movement, despite the fact that Søren was a social democrat and his comrade a communist. After the liberation in May 1945, the differences that had been less important during the war begin to stand in Søren's way. Both his friendship with his comrade and his relationship with the wealthy Inger fall apart in the summer of liberation. But through his work in the Social Democratic Party, Søren experiences a renewed enthusiasm and resumes his relationship with Inger. Together, they actively engage in the party's work and both see it as an extension of the struggle for freedom during the occupation. Denmark's entry into NATO is particularly important.

Egon, a young man from Jutland living with relatives in Copenhagen, meets sensible young girl Ruth and falls in love. But Egon is involved with a gang of criminals, and when they assault a man they meet in a bar they are caught by the police. Egon is sent to a juvenile home, but can he stay out of trouble?

Lilleper is starting school, and on the last day of summer vacation, his father invites the whole family to a party at Tivoli. But then everything goes wrong. Per doesn't like school. Søs falls out with Peter, Mie is accused of theft, and his father is fired from his job and talks about selling the house. Everyone is looking forward to a sad Christmas, but maybe Lilleper will still go to the "Christmas Ball in Nisseland."

Lau Lauritzen plays an ordinary architect, with a wife and a son. He gets accused for killing a 10-year old girl, and of course nobody doubts he's the one. Even his wife and his uncle has trouble believing him, but at least they don't tell him.

Martin the vagabond is cheerful and musical like few others. Together with his new friend Anders, he sings his way to a meal and a place to sleep. During a performance, Anders meets the daughter of Bakkegaarden, whose mother has been a widow for a long time and may have a past with Martin. But not all the local farmers are equally fond of the two wandering charmers.

An everyday story about a single father with four children, whose eldest daughter, Søs, runs the household. Søs occasionally goes into town with Peter. In connection with Ole's schooling, she comes into contact with his teacher, Jørgen Stæhr. Gradually, love develops between them, especially after Søs and Jørgen participate together in Children's Aid Day. Uncle Anders is a frequent guest in the house, and the neighbor, Mrs. Sejersen, often visits under various pretexts.
