Against the backdrop of the Indo-China war of 1962, Tapan Sinha made a short documentary meant to arouse patriotic feelings, called Aamar Desh.

Deep Narayan, a wealthy and noble man, is killed by his greedy brother Anugraha, who seeks to inherit his property if Deep dies childless. Unaware that Deep's wife, Shree, is pregnant, Anugraha proceeds with his plan. Before dying, Deep confides in his manager Chandrakanta, who vows to protect Shree. Shree gives birth to a son, Pradip, who grows up to take charge of the family business and falls in love with Shikha. When Shikha learns she's adopted, Pradip also discovers he isn’t Shree’s son. It's revealed that Chandrakanta had switched the babies, and Shikha is Shree’s daughter, while Pradip is the son of Deep’s employee, Mr. Sridhar. In a selfless act, Sridhar dies while saving Pradip during a rescue in the coal mines.

Another attempt at ghosts and reincarnation. The Court singer's foster grandson, Baiji Kamala's son (Shankar) arrives one day at the court and is exactly a replica of the prince (Rudra). Ali knows he is the illegitimate son of the King. Despite being aware of the facts, both become fast friends, and Rudra takes it upon himself to protect Shankar. Queen Padmavati (Dipti) tries to poison Shankar, killing the King Pratap instead. Shankar grows up to be a stereotype, drunkard, and pleasure-loving, and Shankar is the moderator. In childhood, Dewan's daughter Ranjita betrothed Rudra, preferred Shankar and finally married him. Rudra can't bear it and is out to kill Shankar. Will he succeed? If he does then?

An idealistic writer from a humble background clashes with a wealthy capitalist who steals his work. When factory workers strike, the capitalist's sister, disillusioned by her privileged life, abandons her wealth to join the writer in his fight for social justice and equality for the poor.

A small company advertises for 100 vacancies and 30,000 apply. The applicants are all from the ranks of the poor and there is a virtual riot. Everyone around is seeking for opportunities. Among them are the applicants who desperately need the job, the photographer who is busy seeking a scoop, the village moneylender who is busy exploiting the poor, the ineffective police, the employers who are advertising posts even while a six month old strike has nearly caused the workmen to become destitute. It is a story of society captured in a tiny framework of a small business. Ultimately, the workmen, the unemployed and the farmers all get to gether to protest against this exploitation.
