Subho O Debotar Gras was a film in 2 parts- one was the story of the deaf-mute Shubha who features in a short story by Rabindranath Tagore & the second part was based on the poem titled "Debotar Gras", in which Tagore describes the frantic desire of a dip in holy waters during the Ganga Sagar pilgrimage as well as the selfishness of the pilgrims.

Sandeep is actually involved with the criminals Krishn Chand and Abdullah who force him to plant a bomb on an international flight. Sandeep, rather unwillingly, gives in as he needs money to treat his handicapped younger brother. Although he loves a girl named Ruby, he is unable to marry her for the same reason. Jayanta takes up the name of Arun Roy and befriends Sandeep to learn more about him. And the plot thickens.

Deep Narayan, a wealthy and noble man, is killed by his greedy brother Anugraha, who seeks to inherit his property if Deep dies childless. Shree gives birth to a son, Pradip, who grows up to take charge of the family business and falls in love with Shikha. When Shikha learns she's adopted, Pradip also discovers he isn’t Shree’s son. It's revealed that Chandrakanta had switched the babies, and Shikha is Shree’s daughter, while Pradip is the son of Deep’s employee, Mr. Sridhar. In a selfless act, Sridhar dies while saving Pradip during a rescue in the coal mines.

This story concerns an honest police officer Amit Sen and his wife Seema. Seema has to kill a smuggler, Changez in self-defence, but she cannot tell anything to Amit. Changez's boss Shamsher Singh harasses her for the diamonds that Changez has accidentally dropped in her house, but she has no clue about. In due course, Seema is arrested. Finally, Amit catches Shamsher Singh and proves Seema's innocence in court.
