Maryada was a Bengali drama film directed by Digambar Chattopadhyay. This movie was released on 15 December 1950 under the banner of Bhabani Kalamandir Limited. This is the third and first movie in which legendary Bengali actors Uttam Kumar and Bibhu Bhattacharya appeared respectively. In this movie, Uttam Kumar leaps on a song for the first time in his career.

Bindubasini, a young woman, faces conflicts in her married life. In an attempt to divert her attention, she decides to raise a child.

Three stories with three central female characters linking the stories together. The first one concerns an orphan girl who grows attached to the postmaster she is caring for after he teaches her to read and write. The second one is a supernatural tale about a woman obsessed with the jewels her husband buys for her. Raja was a professional thief who went to jail for a crime. His very close assistant Bhola waited for him and when Raja returned from prison, they started planning a bigger one. One day a family came to their locality. Within a few days, Raja and Bhola became closer to that family. Mala was the only female earning member and she worked in theatre. Raja did not disclose his real identity and tried hard to impress her a lot. In the meantime, a tout Gobardhan nagged Mala a lot to join films. Raja and Bhola gave him a good punishment and saved Mala in several situations. Later Raja tried to cheat a businessperson, but an unavoidable situation changed his life. At last, Mala came to know everything about Raja and accepted him as her partner. Raja also decided to change his life and put his best effort into becoming a good man. He meets Mala and asks her to forgive Raja. Raja once again regains Mala's love and the film ends on a happy note.

Bhupen is an excellent student who works as a private tutor to support his education and family. He begins to teach Sandhya who is a rich man's granddaughter. She ends up falling for him and that ruins his career, even though he did not feel the same for her. He later gets married to Kalyani but he and Sandhya still share a bond for the sake of her property.

The story revolves around the last life crisis of Jamini Mohan and his wife. After his retirement, Jamini Mohan and his wife Santoshini continued to be despised in the family of their earning sons. At this time, Gobinda, an orphan of a distant relative, became their mental hope. After facing various humiliations from their blood relationship Jamini Mohan died and as the mother of three sons, Santoshini became a burden to this family. Eventually, Gobinda became Santoshini's absolute refuge.

Himangshu is a villageman who apart from practicing homeopathy helps the local people with their odds and ends. One day he gets a call from a rich man to escort his daughter Juthika to Patna. At first the rich and spoilt lady takes much disliking for the plain and simple young man but after having seen him from close quarters starts liking him. Soon her marriage is fixed to a bigshot. She confesses her feelings to Himangshu however he declines her love as he had a similar love failure in the past and did not want a broken heart again. He decides to leave the place and go away. Juthika breaks her engagement, leaves her family behind and chooses to come along with Himangshu, proving all his apprehensions wrong.

The sage wanted to kill Kapalkundala, but Motibibi wanted to separate her from Nabkumar only.
