Based upon the novel "Hærværk" by Tom Kristensen about the self destructive person. The literary reviewer Ole Jastrau chooses to free himself from his well-ordered middle class life. He allow the seriously left-wing writer Steffensen move in with himself which soon causes disintegration of his home an marriage.

A portrayal of two modern young men and their experiences of love. Jack, a sociology student, is in a relationship with Betty, who is somewhat older than him. It develops into a passionate love affair, but in the long run, the age difference and especially Betty's upper-class background weigh too heavily. Jack's friend, the cynical journalist Hugo, has casual relationships with several girls until he falls in love with the model Ruth. However, she returns to her husband, and when Hugo later has his face disfigured in a car accident, he ends up committing suicide. Before doing so, he tells Jack that he and several others have also had relationships with Betty.

During an argument with his wife, who is prone to conformity, he pushes her over the staircase landing and now believes he has killed her. However, society does not operate with the concept of guilt, and Adam cannot be convicted of murder, but is released after psychiatric treatment. He tries to get in touch with his young son, but encounters a friendly but determined power structure. At the same time, he is monitored by the authorities, who hope he will contact his oppositionist publisher.

Arntsen takes things and people around him too seriously, and has therefore been awarded a disability pension. And he is not exactly clairvoyant either. But that may come, and often with female help from, for example, Vaskemutter, for whom he does the laundry, or Mette, who has her own problems and accepts him as he is – even without clothes.

A satire and fun farce with songs and various sounds and voices, which attempts to give a picture of good and ordinary people as well as journalists, barbers, countable ghosts, aut. gas and water masters, nannies, a single middle court judge, a robot and not forgetting a professional sweat thief and several others, who together live in the small Danish town of Elleskovsleje.
